The Scottsdale Greenbelt

There are many great features about living in Scottsdale, Arizona. The Scottsdale Greenbelt is one of them. The thought behind the lush green grass and beautiful lakes wasn’t just about making Scottsdale beautiful, but actually about flood-control.  The Scottsdale Greenbelt is formally known as the Indian Bend Wash Greenbelt. It was designed with the help of the U.S. Army Corp of Engineers to divert flood water to the Salt River (now known as the Tempe Town Lake) during periods of heavy rain, which can produce tremendous amounts of water especially during monsoon season. This world-renown flood control project is rated among the top urban “green spaces” in Arizona.

This oasis known as the Scottsdale Greenbelt consists of parks, lakes, paths and golf courses that traverse just over 11 miles through the heart of Scottsdale and almost fifteen miles if you go to its end in Tempe. The Scottsdale Greenbelt starts in the North by the intersection of 92nd St and Shea, and works its way South through McCormick Ranch, known as one of Scottsdale’s best known communities. As you travel South on the Scottsdale Greenbelt and if you were to travel down to Tempe where it ends, you would pass by over eight parks, four golf courses and many man-made lakes.
